About Andrej: A Grounded Perspective on Being a Man Today

Present, curious, and fully accepting of the person in front of me

Hi, I’m Andrej

Most men come to see me because they’ve reached a breaking point with “sucking it up.” They are successful, they provide, and they do what’s expected of them—but internally, they feel disconnected, unappreciated, or like they’re just performing a role.

I know that feeling because I’ve lived it.

My path to becoming a counsellor wasn’t a straight line through academia. It was born out of my own struggles with identity, the pressure to have all the answers, and the exhaustion of trying to hold everything together alone. I’ve faced the same hurdles in relationships, parenting, and career that many of my clients face today.

How I See the Work

I believe therapy for men shouldn’t feel like a medical appointment or a lecture. It’s more like two people climbing their own mountains. I’m not standing on some “finished” peak looking down on you; I’m on my own climb, too.

The difference is my vantage point. From where I’m standing, I can see things on your mountain that you might not be able to see yet—the hidden trail, the loose rock, or the easier path around the bend. My role isn’t to tell you how to climb, but to offer the perspective and tools that allow you to choose the best path forward for yourself.

When you work with me, you’re getting a “6 or 7” on the directness scale. Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • Curiosity Over Judgment

I’m here to help you make sense of the terrain you’re in, not criticize how you got there.

  • Humor and Real Talk

The climb is heavy enough; we’ll use humor to keep things grounded and cut through the tension.

  • Practical Insight

I offer reflections that aren’t based on textbooks, but on what actually works to help you find your footing and keep moving.

Community and Accountability

I don’t just talk about this work; I live it. For years, I’ve been an active member of a men’s group here in Nanaimo. This community continues to teach me about the strength it takes to be honest, the value of accountability, and the relief that comes from finally dropping the mask.

That experience—being a man among men—is what allows me to connect with you in a way that is human first and professional second. I know the courage it takes to sit in that chair, and I respect it.
